Just a thought,
After the race:
Rush to pack up because it is already 5 o'clock and we must still get back to the hotel for a shower.
By now we are late in any case and pissed off because we are wasting drinking time,
your "larny" pants doesn't fit and those church shoes hurt your feet just by looking at them.

Next question where are we leaving the bikes? unattended at the hotel or are we taking them with?,
It is now 7:15 we are late and we must still unhitch the trailor and pay the security gaurd to spend the night sitting on one of the bikes and we must still find this casino.

Just hope they haven't started the prize giving yet. You wonder why everybody is speeding in Polokwane at 7:30 in the evening until you realize that most of these cars have GP number plates and Wild Thing bumper stickers, everybody is late and rushing and pissed off.

Then you wonder, wouldn't it have been better if they had organised a marque tent at the track with a couple of lambs on the spit with maybe one of the local bands or disco's for some music and a prize giving under the African sky next to a nice bonfire, the kids can play we can buy a drink from the bar or have something out of the coolerbox we can can sit back and relax. Then you must make a u turn because you have missed the casino turn off.

Wynand, I have put a link to a road map on the main post
Thursday, September 15th 2005 @ 11:01 AM

Posted by Gys:

Wynand ,
Very good idea , a lot of practical problems.
1. No electricity at the track.
2. Not enough toilets at the track. The girls will be queing for miles.
3. No grass at the track. After a day in the dust I for one sure don't want to spend the night drinking in it as well. What if I FALL OVER?
4. I want to go and shower after a race , and I think all the ladies as well? Imagine how irretated they are going to be , want to go home early and then who is missing out on drinking time ?

For your pants , sorry can't sort that out.

The cost of the function is for your food , which is quit nice. But that brings us back to your pants again

And , it is the Inland , don't you think we must make it special ?
Thursday, September 15th 2005 @ 1:37 PM

Posted by Wynand:

1.No electricity - Get a generator
2.Not enough tiolets - Get Porta-loo's
3.I don't smoke and it is illegal in any case.
4.You stay round the corner will take your stuff home, lock it up and go to the party and in any case how do you know, some girls might like to stay dirty.

The function will most likely be over early in any case because Friday evening travel,Saturday a long day in the sun at the track and then the function but then this was never open for discussion, or was it?

ps. Clive can you post a map to KFC aswell please.

Is it not possible to combine wthing & the inland at the same function, just a thought. After the racing it is going to be a long day (besides spoiling our drinking time).
Thursday, September 15th 2005 @ 3:53 PM

Posted by Gys:

The whole idea is to make it special. I know it is a bit harsh , but so was the whole year.Don't you think we must make a big bash out of it ? It was such a success , want to end it with a braai ?

It is also my and Jill's Inland goodbye present to everybody as we are not going to be involved with the organising next year. I'm sure is going to miss all the lovely discussions I had on this forum , but next year I can sit here and b*tch and moan the whole time. And if I want to I can write under anon. .
But before I'm finished , the rules must be discussed , so I presume I'll use my name for another while. The plan is to post the rules over the weekend , so look out

Dave ,
You can only resign or be fired if you are paid a salary. I'm taking my things and push-off
No, seriously it was a fun year but other people want to take over now.
The MSA meeting is on Sunday 25 September while we all are racing , so you must talk to your Club representatives who can make it , otherwise we are going to run funny races and classes next year. If possible it would be nice if presure from the riders can cause the meeting to move to say a weekday. Then people that was organising the Inland this year can at least make it.

The proposed rules for next year will be posted tommorrow for scrutinizing , so look out.

One thing that I cant assure you though , are that the rules that are going to be accepted at MSA , referring to the problem above.

So check it out tommorrow
Sunday, September 18th 2005 @ 12:18 PM

Posted by clive:

I for one have only a vague idea of how the Clubs / IDTCC / MSA setup works (or should that be doesn't work?). It may just be me that's thick but maybe not.

Now if there is one thing all of who have been paying attention in class these past 10 years or so have learnt, it's that rulings made by any sort of representative body is only acceptable if it is the result of some form of inclusive process.

Now if there is a meeting at which the format etc of next year's IDTCC is going to be decided, and MSA are having it on a race day, then clearly that's a flawed process. Bearing in mind MSA approved the racing calendar.

I for one become very annoyed when some bureaucrat makes decisions on my behalf, or on issues that affect me, without somehow consulting me.

Most of us also perceive there to be more to this than meets the eye; those who have "served" us bear the blame of not requesting our support, or keeping us abreast of what is going on.

Many of us are happy simply to ride wherever we are told to, in accordance with whatever rules exist, but there are equally many of us who have more than a passing or casual interest in the detail.

"it would be nice if presure from the riders can cause the meeting to move to say a weekday" .... how? "Nice"? I think it's far more important than "nice" Gys.

We assume the proposed rules will be available for comment, but who do we direct the comments at, if this year's organisers are out? It won't be much good merely having a say here, if "here" is not read by "them".
Sunday, September 18th 2005 @ 5:01 PM

Posted by Wynand:

Gys do you mean "the rules are going to be accepted by MSA"? and if so wich rules and where does thes rules come from and by whom were these rules compiled.
Sunday, September 18th 2005 @ 6:03 PM

Posted by Gys:

The idea is that the rules will be posted tomorrow that everybody get a say. It will most probably me mailed to me again like the questionare. If there is a big problem with a rule , I will get a few people's input's like i'f done before. Then a final draft will be pulled up and on that draft , MSA will decide the rules for next year.

My big problem with the set-up this year ,with the meeting on a racing day is the following.

It is northern region meeting. That means that all motorsports for the region is discussed on this meeting. In previous years , the track rules we raced under , was made by people in other sports. This year Wildthing and Capricorn were at the meeting.

Luckily.

Otherwise 50cc and 90cc would would have raced together. From age 4 to 16.

Blasters would race with 100 cc from 16 and up.

So what it boiles down to is that 90% of the people that is there do not have a clue about track racing. They are very good in their own inviroment , but not ours.

I should have putted nice in "". We did request that the meeting must be moved , but was told sorry , the other people have race dates on other weekends , so either you pitch or don't. So as usual , it is Quad track racing that is taking the shots again.

I am not organising next year , but would like to put the right rules in place for our racing.

I will again make a phonecall to MSA tomorrow and ask to move it to a weekday , something I have to put leave in for , but will tell you now what the response is going to be.

Sorry , the other people can not make it.

So we hope that the draft is accepted after it was discussed.

Otherwise we are going to have funny rules.

And not haha funny.
Sunday, September 18th 2005 @ 6:38 PM

Posted by Wynand:

Why have I got a funny (not haha as you say) feeling about this?

If the MSA meeting was set for this comming weekend(25/09/05) why was it only made public on this page today and why will the Draft rules only be published tomorrow 5 days before the meeting?

Please tell me that this is not a well orchestrated plan to stop the rest of us to get our thoughts and ideas aired at an acceptible and recognised forum.

One more question why did the "orginisers" of the current competition not invite the PAYING club members and riders to a seminar of some sort to discuss rules and regs?.

Fine we had a very limited questionare to fill out but the results were never published and now suddenly we have a draft.

People are crying for stock classe but the talk is that only the stock 200 class will be accomodated for and also that the 100's will now be 104's, for what just because one or two guys have prematurely imported bigger barrels!

It seems to me that it is expected of us to go on our knees and say thank you for the privalage to be allowed to race in this competition as long as we pay up and accept the rules and keep our mouths shut.

Maybe these rules and regs should be written by a totally independent commitee, people that love the sport because of the sport and not because of friends and family that takes part in it.

If anybody wants to contact me regarding this my details are as follows:

You need to understand how MSA is put together and how it functions:
At the top is the Executive
Next, come the Commissions (per category of motorsport).
Next come the Regional Committees
Then somewhere in between there are the expert Panels.

It is the task of the Commissions to compile rules and regulations for their class of motorsport. This they do by getting input from the Regional Committees, who are comprised of the various reps (and other important dudes).

Dirt track racing has no Commission, we are the poor distant relative of The Off Road Bike and Quad commission; the guys who look after the Off Road Nationals. This is an unhappy situation because there are Commissions for almost every other category, except motorized skateboards.
Debbie is the Quad Rep for the Northern Region. This means ALL quad racing. Now, with Nationals and Regionals issues involved, how much consideration is and can be given to our racing? Imagine she was someone who had never been to a track, but only did the Off Road scene?

As I see it, the people are not the problem, the structures are.

A rider's committee, under the present structures, can only make representation to her, and then she would forward it upwards blah blah blah.

Gys and co have done the right thing by getting input from all of us, and compiling rules that contain and embody all of our suggestions, provided they had popular support. There are going to be things I don't like or things that you don't like, but remember it came from us as a group, and is deserving of our support.

Wynand 10/10 for you!Gys thanks for nothing. Polokwane will never see us again! Re: prize giving: weren't 1st,2nd and 3rd supposed to get blazers as we were told at the beginning of inland? (another lie, now only 1st place gets a blazer??) Mr Bailey: buy two more blazers, then your child has one for every day of the week! SO much for family fun and sportmanship!!:P:(
Tuesday, September 20th 2005 @ 4:21 PM

Posted by clive:

My son races because he enjoys the competition, enjoys pitting his skills against the track and because he simply likes to ride fast . To receive a trophy, any trophy, he sees as a bonus, and they all share pride of place on his shelf. But he does not race for trophies or blazers and I'm sure most riders, young and old, are similar.

Without the organizers there would have been no championship . We and our son am eternally grateful to all of the organizers and especially Gys, Jill and Pierre for giving of their time, effort and money towards what seems to be a thankless task. Now wonder they no longer want to be on the team.

How on earth can you say thanks for nothing? These are normal people trying to do an exceptionally difficult task part time for clearly little thanks.

My first instincts were to delete your comment, but perhaps it is better that people see what these folk have to put up with. You're a bitter, ungrateful person with a huge chip and I doubt it's possible to have family fun with you!
