5TH ROUND INLAND CHALLENGE - WILD THING RACEWAY

Anticipation of the showdown is growing. Eric Williams has shown that he is already competitive on the Honda, getting heat wins at Nigel and on the Oval with basically a MX setup. Many riders have been putting in a lot of practise and making sure their machines are in good shape. We have even seen "Roy" Senna doing a lot of coaching all the way through the ranks. Injuries might play an unfortunate role;  Zelda vd Linde is still healing, Eric Williams is still nursing a fractured wrist and detached ligaments  and we hope Chantelle Darlow will be able to race with a fractured coccyx, providing a competitive Raptor in 450 mix.

In the junior classes Marike vd Linde, Brandon and Devan Wilson, Kyle Johnston and Brandon Darlow are all looking very fast on their modified 100's, but they might have to contend with the likes of Joshua Louw and Travis Zeeman from the Cape, while Pierre vd Berg, Dustin Ledwick, Terrance Beaton, Grenville de Klerk and Juan Coetzee are all flying on the Blasters.

Please help speed up the registration process by downloading the forms from the Wild Thing website and having them ready on race day.

eric williams, wow, gonna make for interesting racing!

Goigen, it does have a kickstart like a 2 stroke . I know this bike will be competitive and I reckon it will be good for our sport to have another manufacturer challenging for the top.

Hay Eric - was that a awesome start at Nigel or a false start? Let's see at Wild Thing behind starting gates.:o

I was standing 2 metres behind them at all 3 starts - that was an awesome start, not a false start Combination of American Racer tyres and very impressive torque.

thanks for all the racing stories.different tracks seem to interperate rules differently.in the case of two or more riders finishing on the same amount of points after two or three heats, who should be classified 1st, 2nd and 3rd.please advise .

GCR (General Competition Rules) and SSR (Standing Supplementary Regulation) 239 puts it this way (they have slightly different wording but are equivalent):
"In the case of a dead heat, the competitors concerned shall share the prizes for the first and second place, or if the competitors agree, the Jury or Stewards of the Meeting / Referee may authorize a re-run by such competitors only. The race or heat may not be re-run." It makes no mention of points, but I assume the spirit of the Regulation is that the tied competitors share the spoils.
I have read a SSR somewhere that refers to the 1st heat being the decider, but a quick lookup proved fruitless right now.
Rules are strange things and they often seem to contradict other rules. Some of them impossible. For example SSR232 states that all motorcycles on the starting grid must have at least 1 metre space. This can't apply to quads. SSR233 viii) says "No padding or digging is allowed in front of the start gate unless done by the organizer", I mention this tongue in cheek and in good nature, because maaan we sweep up a storm!!
I know from correspondence with MSA that there is general dissatisfaction with the scope of the regulations and rules for the Inland Challenge, and that they are addressing it urgently for 2006. I dont think anybody anticipated how serious this racing was going to be, and that rules could play a role in deciding the outcome.[[:)]

He sure did go! Took a new and strange quad out, won the 1st heat by a huge margin and finishes 3rd overall! Nothing negative about that!
